A black screenwithhorizontal and vertical white lines, forming ninesquares, that’s what we see. When the button is pushed engines start to hum and this3x3 matrix suddenly begins to live.It changes shape,it breathes and crawls, as if it’s a living organism. The artist was inspired for this work by streaming water, hence the title. In a fast-moving stream millionsof little waves emerge and die, all the time, everywhere, invisible to the human eye. Immensely complex movements, driven by physical laws. What we actually see on the screen is a tiny detail of such a stream, very much enlarged and in slow motion. The artist has simulated the breathing by electromechanical means: the movements are "real" and fascinating to look at. One can gaze at it for hours. |
