Pattern Generator
Our brain enables us to see depth in flat images, it adds a third dimension, but how this is done and why this works differently for each of us is a mystery. In the Pattern Generator, ten white wires connect five points with each other, against a black background. All five points can be moved up and down, thereby creating an endless number of patterns. While watching this, we ‘suddenly’ see depth, that disappears when the pattern changes again. At another moment, or with another observer, this could be just the other way around.
Romantic influencer
We all know that special sensation when we look through our eyelashes at a crackling fire, at shrubbery moving in the wind or at sunlight reflected in water: the dancing light spots make us feel peaceful and closer to nature. We quiet down, romantic thoughts start welling up.
Build me a woman
In Genesis in the bible, the story is told of God taking a rib from Adam and creating Eva out it. The woman frees Adam of his loneliness and gives him love and warmth. Many men of our time would love to create the woman of their dreams, but unfortunately they are not the almighty. ‘Build me a woman’ offers a chance. Visitors can help creating a woman reduced to her bare essence, and closely watch the process. The machine, the title of which was taken from a song by The Doors, was built by Paul van Twist as a homage to women.

Emergo
Anyone who experiences a grave setback in his life – a serious accident, a life-threatening illness, loss of a close relative – has to adapt his life in a short time to far-reaching changes. The world he used to live in has more or less gone and he has to make a new start. Only if he is successful in this he can resume his normal life. The Zealanders, experts in disasters as a result of their century-long struggle against the water, have summarized their survival process in the slogan ‘Luctor et emergo’ (I struggle and emerge). The Emergo machine shows how the devastated image of the world after a disaster is step by step being restored, and how man ‘emerges’ from it.
Two oscillators
An oscillator is a device that generates vibration. Vibration radiates to its surroundingsas a wave. Van Twist visualizesin 2-D as black-and-white beams. Rotating spokes of a big wheel with the oscillator in the middle.
Noise generator
Pure noise is“acoustical randomness”, unpredictable sound. But why is some noise annoying and tiresome and other noise agreeable to listen to? Turn the wheel and hear an intriguing, stirring, even exciting type of noise. People tend to keep turning the wheel, they don’t want the noise to stop.
Divorced
